love where you live part 4
This is part four of my series to help me remember to be happy where I am. You can see part one and my explanation here, part two here, and part three here.
There is something thrilling about maps, which is why I love this one on my wall. All those countries and all that sea. I love it. The suitcase, typewriter, leaf dish, birdcage, oval frame, and the base of the lamp I got from thrift stores (some of which I mentioned here) and the lamp I made myself from a bottle. It was extremely easy although not necessarily any cheaper than a regular lamp. But it's one of a kind and since it's exactly what I want, it was worth it. Plus, I can take it apart and put it back together if that's ever necessary. I made the banner from some twine and some wedding pictures. The clock is from Walmart or something like that. The desk itself was my great-grandmother's before she died. When I got married, I dug it out of my grandpa's shed along with her dresser. They have some water damage and lots of nicks and scratches, and someday I might paint them but right now I like that they're in their original state. The yellow curtain below the desk drawer (you can just see the top corner) hides my craft drawers under the desk. That is literally the only space in our apartment where my craft and sewing supplies can stay out of sight and still be easily accessible. The birds in the cage are kind of romantic, don't you think? I like to pretend a world traveler sits down at that desk at night when I'm asleep and types up his memoirs in the lamplight and the birds come alive and sing for him.
Not really. That is totally creepy and I would be afraid to sleep if I really pretended that.
